JANUARY:

➢ Banners will be hung on buildings and the downtown lamp posts announcing our City’s Sesquicentennial
➢ We will begin publishing 3 types of articles that will continue each month, all year long. They, and all other postings and event dates, can be found on WGCY, the Ford County Chronicle, the Ford County Record, the Gibson City Sesquicentennial Facebook Page, and Gibson City Illinois Website.
➢ Interviews with Gibson City’s Senior Citizens
➢ Articles focused on a historical topic of Gibson City, written by one of the members of the Historical Committee. The first one of these is titled “What’s in a Name” written by Jean Noellsch.
➢ Focus on a local business and its history, the first article will be about the Gibson City Vet Clinic

FEBRUARY:

➢ GCMS Elementary Students will be doing writing and art activities on the theme WHAT I LOVE ABOUT GIBSON CITY. These will be published through the sites listed above.
➢ Photography contest focused on GC places and landmarks, contest running February through August. Flyer will be available soon with details. 4 age categories w/ 3 prizes awarded per category.

MARCH:

➢ Typically, this is the month of the Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet – tentatively set for March 11th
➢ All previous Chamber of Commerce Citizens of the Year, Junior Citizens of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement Winners will be publicized
➢ Article recognizing Gibson City’s oldest business(es)

APRIL:

➢ Our 3 Senior Living Facilities (GAH Annex, Heritage Health, Villas of Holly Brook) will recognize their
Senior Citizens with a Birthday Party for them as well as our City, organized by Miranda Leonard at The Annex.
➢ All previous Mayors of Gibson City will be listed as well

MAY:

➢ May 2nd we will host a community/family event at the GC North Park from 1 – 4PM. We will open the Time Capsule that was buried in 1971. Plans are being made to have ice cream, games for kids, and live music.
➢ We will bury another to be opened in 2071. Collection of items for that being done at Moyer Library.

JUNE:

➢ Gibson City’s Villas of Holly Brook to host recognition celebrations for some of the volunteer
organizations that make Gibson City great!

JULY:

➢ Greyhound Reunion – not sure the status of this event – any ideas to add to this for Sesquicentennial?
➢ ACT THEATER performance – potentially a historical script based on Gibson City – yet to be confirmed
➢ Dedication of Miner School landmark, Thursday, July 15th at 1PM, with reception to follow at GC North Park
➢ “Can You Recognize This Gibson City Landmark” contest

AUGUST:

➢ Vintage Movies and Car Show at Harvest Moon Drive-In – yet to be confirmed

SEPTEMBER:

➢ Sept. 10th & 11th – Vintage games and activities to celebrate our Sesquicentennial – to be held in conjunction with the Harvest Fest event. Specifics to be announced at a later date.

OCTOBER:

➢ GCMS Students to participate in Art Contest and Essay Contest with Gibson City themes.
➢ Quilt and Style Show

NOVEMBER:

➢ Historical holiday – themed photos and articles will be shared
➢ Community food and necessity drive will be held

DECEMBER:

➢ Christmas in the Park theme will focus on holidays past as well as business holiday
decorating
➢ The Ford County Chronicle will publish a special insert focused on the Gibson City
Sesquicentennial
